On Monday 9 October, Thoralf the Viking came to talk to the Year 3 children about the Viking way of life. They are studying this topic in their History lessons this term and immediately became engrossed in his presence as he proceeded to tell exciting stories and adventures about these historic Nordic invaders.
The children were shown a wide range of authentic objects such as armour, weapons, musical instruments and a quern with which to grind corn. The experience really enhanced each child’s learning about this period in time. During the last part of his visit, he demonstrated the use of the sword; slicing an apple in half ….safely of course! Thank goodness he was a friendly Viking!
