To begin the new academic year in the Senior School, our pupils’ induction began with the First Form camp. Meeting up again after the nice long summer break was very exciting and spending time in School’s wonderful parkland was the perfect start. Reach Outdoors travelled up from Devon to set up the bell tents and the activities areas and our catering department prepared all the food for the next two days; and then our pupils arrived first thing Tuesday morning with sleeping bags, pillows, kit bags, and the occasional soft toy. Their tutors were on hand to help throughout the two days and it was good to see how well the groups were bonding.
Everyone threw themselves into all the challenges, whether it be getting a bulls-eye in archery, creating a raft that wouldn’t sink or preparing a marshmallow without dropping it into the campfire. Friendships were consolidated, holiday stories shared and support and encouragement given throughout the two days. All the activities proved to be favourites; from Celtic laser to archery, to bush craft and team building games, along with going down to our Boathouse and splashing about on the river in kayaks and rafts. There is no doubt that another great start to the year has been made.
