It was an early start on Thursday 17 August for students and their families as they returned to Cokethorpe to discover the results of their past two years of hard work.
With changes to the structure of A Levels and the qualification deliberately posing an increased academic challenge, Cokethorpe is delighted to see a notable 50% increase in the number of students receiving the top A* grade. The improvement of high grades being award to Cokethorpe students also saw an increase of 10% in the A* to B grades.
Individually there were some extremely impressive results. Alex Billing gained three A* and one A grade to secure his place to read Classics at Magdalen College, Oxford. Harry Creak achieved four A* grades and will start at Bristol University in September to read Chemistry. Ben Foster has accepted a place at Imperial College to read Aeronautical Engineering after receiving two A* and two A grades. Hetty Watts-Lay was awarded three A* grades and is planning to travel to South America to pursue her interest in linguistics.
Cokethorpe School prides itself on helping students to identify and achieve their ambitions and this is reflected in the quality and variety of the university destinations of its leavers. With Oxbridge and Russell Group universities well represented, students are set to continue their education in subjects ranging from Classics and Engineering to Physiotherapy and Zoology.
Mr Ettinger, Headmaster, said: It is hugely rewarding to see students achieve great results. I am delighted that many students are taking on academically demanding courses at some of the country’s leading universities, and I look forward to witnessing their future successes.
