On a beautiful sunny morning, the whole Junior School enthralled their audience with this year’s Prize Giving entertainment.
All the planning came to fruition when the children began their procession across the beautiful parkland into the Marquee, as we saw that Mrs Mace, the Cokethorpe costumiere, had clearly pulled out all the stops again.
The entertainment began as Year 3 and 4 transported the audience to Neverland with a most swashbuckling performance of Peter Pan. A sprinkling of fairy dust and many delightful musical renditions made for a highly memorable performance of the classic story, full of energy and enthusiasm.
Year 5 performed two plays in historical settings. 5KF treated the audience to a whirlwind journey through Shakespeare’s most famous works, cleverly introducing many of his most iconic characters in the setting of the Globe Theatre. 5VM retold the adventures of Christopher Columbus, and his voyages across the Atlantic with a rather unhappy crew in tow. All Year 5 children put on an extremely worthy performance with high quality acting, singing and dancing.
Children in Pre-Prep performed delightfully, and their ecological musical There’s a Sunflower in my Supper was a definite highlight of the morning. Daisy the Cow, dreamt of growing a glorious garden at her home, Grassy Hill. However, grumpy Mr Bull had other ideas. Thankfully, Wise Old Owl was on hand to save the day. Year 1 were charming as Market Sellers, and the Reception Class played the ‘Wacky Wonderful Wildlife’ to perfection!
Year 6 children put on a stunning performance of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the classic tragedy of romance, confusion and reconciliation. All the cast excelled in learning difficult lines, and the standard of acting was impressive.
The inventive adaptations and direction from Mrs Du Feu, along with excellent performances throughout the Junior School, ensured that this year’s Prize Giving entertainment was heralded a great success.
