Scholars Witness Opening of Parliament

On Wednesday 21 June, Scholars in the First, Second, Third and Fourth Forms accompanied Mr Hughes to Westminster to witness the State Opening of Parliament.

Following a workshop on voting, in which the Procter Progressive party won a landslide, the Scholars were treated to a tour of the Palace of Westminster, including the opportunity to sit in the Stranger’s Gallery when the Houses of Commons began debate on the Queen’s Speech. The Scholars were keen to spot as many ‘big beasts’ as possible, and they managed to tick several off the list- May, Corbyn, Clarke, Farron, etc. All members of the school are encouraged to speak with the scholars who participated in this trip, as a way of sustaining the outstanding atmosphere of civic engagement that has been fostered by recent events at school.
