On Monday 10th April shortly after daybreak, 86 boys and girls from First Form to Third Form set off from Cokethorpe School for the eagerly awaited Sports Tour to Holland. The fortitude shown by our pupils during the arduous day long journey to the Center Parcs at Limburgse Peel in the Netherlands augured well for the challenges that lay ahead of them. The responsible manner in which each group of six pupils took charge of their allocated Villas set the tone for the remainder of their stay particularly having to manage a financial budget to cater for their lunches for three days.
Following a late night swim in the Aqua Mundo topical pool and an early start the following day the groups embarked on two intensive days of hockey, netball and football coaching sessions in the morning followed by tournaments involving British and Dutch teams in the afternoon. All of our teams displayed superb sportsmanship and effort throughout.
Their achievements ranged from the most improved soccer player in the case of Miguel Rodrigus Lardes, who was relatively new to the sport, to the U15 netball girls who linked up brilliantly with two other schools to win the 'Spirit of Netball' award to the U13 hockey team and U13 Football team to win Runner Up trophies In their respective tournaments. The tour was hugely successful and action packed and we even managed to squeeze in a well deserved day trip to Efteling Theme Park.
