On Saturday 11 March, Cokethorpe Junior School hosted its inaugural Arts Week Nursery Exhibition.
Every year the Junior School selects a theme and dedicates a week to the celebration of the Arts. This year the inspiration was Around the World in 80 Days with a particular focus on poetry.
To extend the celebrations to the wider community, local nurseries were invited to use the Monkey Puzzle book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler as inspiration for their children to create a wide range of beautiful, colourful pictures. The pictures then formed the art exhibition.
On the morning of the exhibition, visiting families took part in an adventurous treasure hunt around the Mansion. Following a trail of bananas, the children discovered characters from the Monkey Puzzle book and answered questions about each one. Once the hunt was completed, the children were presented with a goodie bag as a reward for their hard work in solving the clues.
The families then made their way into the Dining Hall where the pictures were on display and activity tables were full of fun art projects that the children could complete and take home.
Before the exhibition had started, Mr Ettinger and Mrs Cook had thoroughly enjoyed looking at all of the art that the children had created and although it was a very difficult decision, they selected some of their favourites. The winning pictures had a rosette on them and all of the winning and commended children (and their nurseries) will received a prize.
