On Thursday 9 February the final of this year’s Young Musician of the Year competition was held in the Corinthian Room.
All of the finalists played beautifully, accompanied by Miss Mitchell and Dr Winkley on the new Yamaha C3 Grand Piano that now takes pride of place in the Corinthian Room. The competition was adjudicated by Dr John Traill from Oxford University who gave inspiring feedback to all of the performers.
This year’s winner is Izzy Carnell (Third Form, Vanbrugh) on the ‘cello and the runner up was Lukas Russell (Fifth Form, Gascoigne) on the organ. I am pleased to announce that Lukas has also been awarded a scholarship singing bass with the Cathedral Singers of Christ Church. They sing around 100 services a year to the public and is a very prestigious award. Congratulations to Lukas on this fantastic achievement.
