Education Blossoms in the Junior School

During the past few years children from a number of year groups have visited The Kitchen Garden.

They have been able to identify the different fruits and vegetables growing and take part in planting and caring for their own patch. Trips to the garden have also linked to different areas of the curriculum and the development of learning skills has continued outdoors. It is a great opportunity for the children to experience where their food comes from and to really appreciate how much time and care is needed to grow it.

This year, we decided to work towards the RHS School Gardening Award Scheme which aims to help schools develop their garden whilst earning great rewards. There are five different levels to achieve which involve submitting written and photographic evidence of our gardening projects. So far, we are very pleased to have gained Levels 1 and 2 by demonstrating how the children are able to carry out basic skills in the garden. Look out for our certificates in the Junior School!
