The Design and Technology Department are extremely excited and proud to announce that Mathew Turner (Lower Sixth, Feilden) has been awarded an Arkwright Scholarship.
The Arkwright Scholarship is an extremely prestigious award that identifies, inspires and nurtures future leaders in Engineering, Computing and Technical Design. The Scholarships are awarded through rigorous selection to high-calibre students displaying outstanding talent in this field. Mathew is one of only 400 students that have been awarded the scholarship this year, and the first student at Cokethorpe to have achieved this.
As part of this prestigious award Mathew receives a sponsorship through his time at A Level. This involves being awarded financial assistance towards his studies as well as being given a tutor in the engineering industry; he has been placed with an engineer in the Williams Formula 1 team. Mathew hopes to work for Formula 1 as a Design Engineer, and plans to study Mechanical Engineering at University.
Further to this, and as part of this prestigious award Mathew was this week visited by Mr Kennington, a first point of contact for Mathew. Mr Kennington, a Design and Technology Head of Department of over 30 years and judge for the Arkwright Scholarship, provided expert advice on what to expect from the award as well guidance on his latest A Level coursework.
Mathew said; ‘I am really honoured to have received this award, and look forward to see where it takes me in the future.’
We are all excited and proud to see Mathew begin his Arkwright Scholarship and look forward to him continuing his journey in Design and Engineering and beyond.
