On Thursday 6 October, Sixth Form Textiles students visited The Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace in North London. This show is the largest and most highly regarded textiles and craft event in the UK and brings together gallery exhibitions, craft workshops, a textile graduate exhibition and hundreds of designers, makers and suppliers.
The day started exploring the galleries where some of the UK’s best-known textile artists showcase their work; from 3D crochet to surface embroidery, patchwork and quilting. After lunch, the students attended an embroidery workshop before exploring the vast show, gathering visual inspiration. After meeting again to experiment with Indian block printing at one of the drop-in sessions it was time to return home. ON the walk back to the station around the edge of Alexandra Palace the students were lucky to catch the impressive views of the London skyline at sunset.
