24 Hour Charity Football Match

A Sixth Former and 19 of his close friends completed a gruelling 24 hour charity football match in our Sports Hall.

George Burr, Upper Sixth Gascoigne, raced around the Sports Hall on Friday in aid of the John Radcliffe’s Silver Star ward. The specialist ward supports mothers with medical complications throughout pregnancy.

During the marathon match the boys all took turns to play while the rest cheered on from the sidelines or refuelled with some refreshments and naps.

Along with George’s mother, Melanie Page, Sky Sports Presenters Vicky Gomersall and Jules Warren were there to offer encouragement. Also on hand was Oxford United Goalkeeper, Jack Stevens.

Over £5,000 has been raised for the ward which cared for George after he was born seven weeks premature. George said: 'It’s a suitable cause after what they did for me. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been born. Football is my favourite sport so my aim was to play for 24 hours.'

After the final whistle blew the 'Stars' beat the 'Silvers' by 576 goals to 524.
