On Monday 20 June, Year 3 visited Sulgrave Manor; a superb example of a modest manor house of Shakespeare’s time; home to the ancestors of George Washington. The children dressed in Tudor costume on arrival and each took an authentic packed lunch to add to the excitement of the day.
We walked through the Great Hall, Kitchen and Bedchamber and explored the furniture and artefacts of the period. The rooms were laid out as they would have looked in the time of Lawrence Washington, who bought the estate from Henry VIII in 1539, hoping to catch a glimpse of a ghostly figure or two! The children acted out the story of the Tudor kings and queens and even partook in a Tudor song and dance!
