Hockey Girls Travel to Olympic Park

'After such a successful season in hockey, the School was chosen by England hockey to take some pupils to watch the Australian Women’s team play Argentina in the Champions Trophy at the Olympic Park in London on Tuesday 21 June.

This proved a popular event and 30 girls attended the trip. As the girls embarked onto the coach there was a real sense of excitement and curiosity of what to expect from the day. As we approached the Olympic Park, passing the aquatic centre and velodrome centres where the Olympics had taken place, the girls' excitement grew. As we entered the astro pitch, we were welcomed by Miss Williams, who left the School in March to run marketing events for England Hockey.

The girls had time to look around the multiple events that were on offer in the ark including a trade fair of food stands that represented every team in the tournament. As we took to our seats the atmosphere was electric. Miss Williams had organised for two pupils to be mascots for the umpires. The girls met the players, entered the pitch through the tunnel, stood with the teams for the national anthems and then they were introduced to the crowd. The game was intense, lots of referral decisions made by each captain which resulted in three goals being disallowed throughout the match. As the game drew to a close, Argentina took control, winning 2-1.

It was a fantastic day, a truly memorable day that the girls will cherish and never forget.'
