This weekend was filled with sporting success for Cokethorpe pupils, despite some strong challenges across the board. The Equestrian Team qualified for the Royal Windsor Horse Show and our England Judo Pre-Cadet Squad member took gold in a new weight category. Congratulations to all the girls involved, for their feats of sporting achievement!
On Saturday 23 January, Luisamae (Lower Sixth, Harcourt), Sophie (Fifth Form, Vanbrugh), Sasha (Fifth Form, Swift) and Chloé (Fourth Form, Feilden) were competing in the qualifying competition for the prestigious Royal Windsor Horse Show, which will be held in May. This annual equestrian competition bills itself as the UK’s largest outdoor show with international competitions in three different equestrian disciplines.
The Cokethorpe team knew that it would be a hotly contested meet, but it was a surprise to see just how many teams were in the race. With only three qualifying places for the RWHS, there were 40 teams in the qualifying competition, but Cokethorpe performed strongly and the team were placed second overall! This achievement was made all the more special by the individual placing of Luisamae in competition.
Lizzie (Third Form, Vanbrugh) has been going from strength to strength as a judo competitor, with competition wins detailed in the Michaelmas Ocellus. Her place as an England Judo Pre-Cadet Squad member was recently confirmed with a presentation of England Rose badges at Walsall. This weekend, Lizzie performed powerfully again, and, despite moving up to a new weight category of U48kg, she won a gold medal on Sunday 24 January at the South Coast Open in Worthing.
