On Monday 14 December the Michaelmas Term came to a lively conclusion with a sell-out crowd gathered in The Shed to watch the highly anticipated Gig Night. The Jazz Band, a firm favourite of Gig Night, opened the evening before an eclectic line up of musical hits were performed by bands, groups and soloists.
Early on, there was a very enthusiastic reaction for an Elvis cover from Louis Rawlinson (Third Form, Harcourt) of Love Me Tender with powerful vocals. Other performances of note included Ollie Charles (Third Form, Gascoigne) on guitar and vocals, with Mr Mullin on cajun and Will Riman (Fourth Form, Feilden) on trumpet, who covered Passenger’s Life’s for the Living. Wilf Cartwright (Fifth Form, Queen Anne) showed his full range, ably playing the drums, guitar, cajun and also singing opposite Anna De Buriatte Moglia (Fifth Form, Harcourt), performing a James Taylor cover of Close Your Eyes. Wilf also played piano on a cover of Metal and Dust by London Grammar, sung by Anna De Buriatte Moglia and Sofia Ward-Naranjo (Fifth Form, Queen Anne). As always, it was a truly fantastic night of music, with too many performances to mention in this report. Gig Night is an outstanding representation of the talent and hard work that pupils put in to their musical pursuits and it continues to go from strength to strength.
