U16 County Netball Tournament

Evie Phillips (Fifth Form, Swift), captain of our U16 Netball team has written this match report of a recent successful county tournament…

On Wednesday 18 November, the U16 netball team took part in the U16 Schools County Netball Tournament. We arrived knowing it would be tough not only because of the high standard opposition but also because there was very strong wind. The first match we played was against Faringdon, and it was a strong start, with us winning 23-5; this gave us confidence for the next matches. Our second game was against Didcot Girls; this match was tougher but we still came out on top winning 14-10. Our third match was against Tudor Hall, a team who we have played before and always have close games, again we played well and stepped up, winning 12-6.

We knew the final match in our pool against Headington would be the hardest; again a team we always have close matches with. The match was close and because of some good defending from Cokethorpe we won 9-5. This meant that we had won all of our pool matches so would go through to the semi-finals top. We knew the semi-final against St Helens and St Katherine would be the toughest match. In the first half it was going goal for goal, St Helens were one ahead as we took our centre pass, not scoring off it because of the half time whistle. This meant that they would have their centre pass one ahead. Unfortunately a few mistakes from us and good play from St Helens meant we lost 7-5. Sadly we were out of the tournament, but overall happy with our performance throughout the day.
