On Tuesday 17 November, Cokethorpe hosted its first French evening, or ‘Soirée Française’. The setting was perfect; the dining hall was full of French flags, a delicious traditional meal was waiting for us and Vanessa Paradis was playing in the background. Even the mansion house was lit up blue, white, and red.
Our guests were served a four course meal; onion soup and gruyere croutons, beef bourguignon, a cheeseboard and dessert. After this wonderful food, we all went to The Shed to continue the evening with a French film entitled “l’Arnacoeur”. This film stars Vanessa Paradis herself and famous French actor Romain Duris, it is the story of Alex (Duris) and his sister who run a business designed to break up relationships. They are hired by a rich man to break up the wedding of his daughter (Paradis); the only problem is that they have just one week to do so.
The Soirée Française was a huge success, it went very smoothly and everyone felt that they had travelled a little. We are already working on a summer event and hope to see you there.
