Reunion Dinner and Sports Festival

Saturday 20 June started a little grey but by midday it had warmed and brightened up a little and things were looking promising. Old Cokethorpeans (OCs) arrived, excited about playing their sport of choice against the Cokethorpe pupils and staff.

The football started first and it was a very close game this year with the score 5-5 at full time and the match won by the Cokethorpe pupils on penalties. Hockey started shortly after and was a very one sided game with OCs winning comfortably 13-0. During this time Mr Walwyn was running a clays competition which saw Charlie von Hoven (OC 2013, Vanbrugh) lead the pack in some very challenging stands. It was towards the end of this competition that the rain began which was light at first. Luckily the netball was in the Sports Hall! The teams played a variation of High Fives and it was neck and neck up to the final quarter. In the final quarter the Cokethorpe pupils clinched the win. Following a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of sports, staff, pupils and OCs made their way to Cuppa for afternoon tea. It was at this point that the rain started to pour, not that it dampened spirits as everyone socialised and relaxed together, but it most certainly dampened clothing and there were several sodden shoes!

The Reunion Dinner started with an informal and relaxed drinks reception where OCs from the 1950s to recent leavers got the opportunity to catch up with Mr Ettinger, My Fenton and Mr Maskery. Guests were then spoilt by Cokethorpe School’s Catering Department with a delicious three course meal including asparagus and pea risotto, roasted rack of lamb, chocolate fondant and maple wine. OCs from across the decades sat with others from their year group but socialised with others both older and younger, all with a common interest and passion; Cokethorpe School and their experiences growing up. The night was finished off with group photos, more chatter/conversation before the majority of OCs left for an ‘after party’ in Witney.
