Monday 18 May
Year 6 children departed Cokethorpe grounds this morning at 8.00am with a smiles on their faces despite the heavy downpour of rain. Their destination is North Wales where the children will be learning lots of bushcraft skills over the course of the five day residential trip.
Message received from Mr O'Connor who has discussed the programme with the Bushcraft expedition leaders. They will now be doing two separate full day walks and returning to the centre each evening. The weather is due to improve on Thursday when they will do the rock climbing and abseiling activities.
Tuesday 19 May
Today Year 6 walked to Cwm Idwal, 'Devil's Kitchen'. The walk was three kilometres in total but stopped along the way to look at animals and various rock formations. Lunch was eaten under shelter due to the rain, however they had a beautiful view of the lake. The children are in very good spirits and are looking forward to climbing Snowdon tomorrow.
Wednesday 20 May
Congratulations to Year 6 who set off to climb Mount Snowdon this morning. Everybody made it to the half way point and 24 children went on to reach the top. This is a fantastic achievement and they are all very happy.
There is no internet connection so we hope to receive some photographs tomorrow.
The children have coped well with the weather and spirits are high. The small bursts of sunshine have been very much appreciated by staff and children. They have learnt a lot about the landscape and glacial features in the area; played hide and seek in a canyon, set up relay races on the beach by the lake and practised their stone skimming techniques.
The children have described their week as 'challenging but really fun'.
