Last weekend the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award groups headed to Dartmoor to undertake their training.
Travelling down on the Friday, the group had a full day of campcraft and navigation on Saturday and even went out during the darkness to learn the importance of taking bearings and counting pacings.
On Sunday the groups planned and walked a mini route and got excellent experience of the changing climate of Dartmoor. They were confronted with sun, rain and fog in the space of four hours. However the weekend was a great success, and their trainers were very impressed with the organisation and application of the Cokethorpe students. Next up is their practice expedition over the Easter holidays, for which the groups are currently planning.
