Thursday night saw the very first open air Advent Service in Cokethorpe’s history. It was lovely to see the whole School together lit only by candle light as Téo Loeffen (Second Form, Gascoigne) began the service with the Senior School Choir singing Once in Royal David’s City. The congregation were treated to beautiful performances from the Junior School and the Junior School Chamber Choir as falling snow was projected behind them, and merrily joined in with renditions of favourite advent carols accompanied by the Concert Band.
Following the Advent Service Cokethorpe pupils and their families made their way to the CPA Christmas Fayre to carry on the evening’s festivities. The Christmas market was made up of over twenty stall holders selling a wonderful range of gifts, food, books, clothing, accessories and flowers. Guests also enjoyed a wide selection of food and drink stalls that had a queue of customers throughout the evening. We were even lucky enough to have a visit from Father Christmas and children were able to meet him in the beautifully decorated grotto. The ice rink, set up in the middle quad, was extremely busy all evening. Some Cokethorpe pupils were able to skate during the day, whilst the remaining pupils took the opportunity to skate in the evening with their siblings and parents. Many pupils, including some of our younger and very adventurous participants, would have stayed on the ice the whole night had they had the chance but sadly the event had to come to the end, for this year!
The CPA would like to thank the School Nurses for ensuring everyone remained safe during the evening and on the ice. The Catering Department for providing delicious hot food and mulled wine and the Maintenance Team for all their running around in preparation for the event, helping to install the ice rink and all the tidying up afterwards.
