During the October half term, A Level art students and senior art award holders took part in a life study and portrait workshop held at Cokethorpe by the Royal Academy Outreach programme.
This was the first time many of the students had tackled this genre of art and coped admirably with the demands. A huge amount of work was produced and a lot was learnt. They then took this knowledge to London the following day where they completed a critical analysis workshop at the Tate Modern on the theme of self-portraiture.
The afternoon was spent at the Anselm Kiefer exhibition at the Royal Academy were students studied his use of mixed media and use of historical events. This proved to be an inspiration, particularly to the AS Level students who are using mixed media in their coursework. An exhausting but ultimately inspiring couple of days.
