Art Trip to the Saatchi Gallery and Tate Modern

AS Level art students went to London to explore and experince art in its physicality as part of our project Portraiture and the use of mixed media. Our visit to both the Saatchi Gallery and Tate Modern had an immediate effect on our project, inspiring all of us with ideas to develop and artists to research.

We visited the Saatchi first where the exhibition that was being held featured contemporary South American artists such as Jose Lerma, Aboudia and Rafael Gomezbarros. All displays included amazing use of mixed media, many also focused on the distortion of living objects. The Tate Modern on the other hand presented more relatively traditional artists, giving all the AS students ideas on how to combine artistic techniques from both the past and the present.

During the Half-Term break we will be working with the Royal Academy starting with a portrait and figure drawing workshop and a guided visit of the Anselm Keifer exhibition. Hopefully this will build on the work we have already produced.
