On a particularly blustery, cold afternoon Cokethorpe Junior School hosted their annual Nine-a-side Rugby Tournament.
Eight teams were split into two groups and played a round robin to determine who would progress to the final.
Despite the conditions there was an excellent level of rugby played in the group stages, with all teams displaying determination and commitment.
Cokethorpe A Team, having won their two opening matches needed to defeat Magdalen College School in order to progress to the final. In a close fought game they were narrowly defeated by four tries to three, which meant they faced a strong Winchester House in the third and fourth place play-off match.
The first half was closely contested, with Cokethorpe working hard in defence to stop a well-drilled Winchester House team. As the second half progressed Winchester House became stronger, particularly at the breakdowns, and piled on the pressure, eventually securing a comfortable win.
Special mention should go to the ground staff, who worked hard to ensure the pitches were marked out and were in excellent condition, despite heavy rain during the week.
Finally, thank you to our referees, who did a commendable and professional job all afternoon.
