Cokethorpe Society members will be delighted to hear that Rachel Dent (member of Cokethorpe staff from 1995-2006) is to be the Head of The Abbey School, Reading, one of the UK’s largest independent day schools for girls.
Rachel was part of Cokethorpe’s dramatic change from a boarding school for 196 boys, to the thriving co-educational HMC day school of 660 pupils that it is today. Having joined as English and Drama teacher in 1995, her career quickly progressed to Head of Department and subsequently Head of Sixth Form, leaving Cokethorpe in 2006 to join The Abbey School as Director of Sixth Form.
She is remembered at Cokethorpe for many things – by her Sixth Form students for helping make the Sixth Form fun, for always smiling and being prepared to listen, as well as for her patience and skill over their UCAS applications, and by her colleagues for her ability to tackle and solve a problem with determination and a cup of coffee.
Rachel has many fond memories of Cokethorpe and is grateful for the experience and opportunities it gave her, and is a fervent follower of Society events and news. Cokethorpe is very proud of her and wishes her all the best in her new role.
