On Friday 24 January, the Cokethorpe Parents’ Association hosted yet another successful Burns Night celebration. Guests arrived to the wonderful sounds of the piper, and entered the dining room, transformed for dinner with beautiful flowers arranged by Mrs Fellows.
After the Selkirk Grace delivered by Mrs Hughs, Mr Ozgur Cavus carried the haggis in, escorted by the piper Mr Logue who gave a great rendition of Address to a Haggis. A delicious dinner of haggis, tatties and neeps starter, followed by lamb, chocolate mousse and cheese and biscuits fuelled everyone for dancing.
After dinner Mr Faria gave the first speech, A Toast to the Lassies, prepared as a poem, with the response on behalf of the lassies being given by Mrs Christensen. Then the dancing began to the excellent London-based band, Ceilidh Generation, and the dinner tables were quickly pushed back even further to provide enough space for all the guests to dance. The caller for the Ceilidh provided clear instructions on the dances, and the dance floor was quickly filled with lots of dancing and laughing. Many new parents and first time Burns Night parents attended and really enjoyed their evening of socialising, good food and entertainment.
The CPA would like to thank the Catering Team for their delicious food and warm hospitality, to Bakers Butchers in Witney for so generously donating the haggis, the Maintenance Team for moving furniture around, the Box Office for managing ticket sales and Marketing Team for their support.
