Junior School Choir Perform at Chipping Norton Music Festival
The Junior Choir took part in the Chipping Norton Music Festival for the first time. Feeling nervous but very much looking forward to the event, they arrived at Chipping Norton School and were shown to their seats. It was reassuring to be supported by so many Cokethorpe parents and staff.
The Choir had prepared well in advance of the competition. This included memorising the tricky song words, attending extra lunchtime rehearsals as well as putting on a confident performance during a Junior School assembly.
After an highly anticipated wait during other schools performances, our Choir was introduced and took their places on stage. They looked very smart and were highly focused on Mrs Du Feu’s conducting throughout the performance. The four contrasting songs, Ocean Commotion, Lady dressed in White, (solo by Olivia Stacey, Year 6), Can you hear my voice? (solo by Jonathan Peach, Year 5) and I am the Wind were very well received by the audience, but everyone still held their breath as we awaited the adjudicators final comments.
Luckily these were all very positive and he mentioned the great dynamic contrasts, the lovely connection with the words, the Drama in the singing, the brilliant solos, movement, positive harmonies and smiles!
Everyone agreed that the day had been a hugely enjoyable experience for all involved.
