Cokethorpe’s RAG Week was a great success, with pupils coming together in true community spirit to raise over £6,000 for their nominated charities, the Rafiki Thabo Foundation and Helen and Douglas House. Throughout the week, form groups organised a wide range of different activities, from the ever-popular cake sale through to a Sixth Form v Staff football match – even, in the case of four young men from Fourth Form Gascoigne, going so far as to have their legs waxed. On Friday afternoon, the school was transformed into an idyllic (rather sugary) scene, with a ‘Jousting Horse’, Sumo Wrestling suits and candyfloss amongst the many treats as children enjoyed a ‘country fair’.
Whilst a great deal of fun was had by all, the seriousness of the occasion was brought home by visiting speakers from both the charities, who led WIT sessions and spent time speaking to pupils. Huge thanks go to the CPA for organising a tea and cake sale and for contributing so generously to the Auction of Promises, but the week was a pupil initiative, and they were the organisers of the events; they did themselves proud.
