The Enrichment Programme
Compulsory enrichment sessions take place for one hour each week in the Sixth Form. The enrichment programme runs alongside the General Studies lectures, allowing our young people to prepare for the exciting challenges that lie ahead at university, and beyond. In addition to individual one-to-one sessions with Academic Mentors, in which students set targets for their development in each of their A Level studies, students complete a range of activities designed to support their studies, uncovering a range of topics such as 'America - the rise of a superpower' and 'Fair Trade'. Outside speakers give thought-provoking presentations on topics such as 'Living with HIV', which enable students to reflect upon important social, cultural and health issues. Students are also engaged in a range of charity and fundraising events. They are able to contribute to the wider community through a volunteering programme.
In the Lower Sixth, students complete an intensive course of planning and preparation in the lead up to UCAS applications and these sessions form part of the staged programme of support and guidance, covering issues such as course selection, researching instiutions and making the most out of open days. This culminates in individualised support in the production of an effective UCAS application, with a strong emphasis on the skills required in the development of a winning personal statement. Interview techniques are also developed through one-to-one and group sessions.
In the Upper Sixth, students are given vital advice in their planning for life at university. Practical advice is offered in the form of the 'Survival Guide to University' and students take a hands on approach to tackling some of the personal, social and health related problems that they are likely to encounter upon entering the next phase of their education. These sessions are also used to support students in the process of accepting firm and insurance offers from UCAS.
