Cokethorpe School

Rugby at Cokethorpe

At Cokethorpe we pride ourselves on developing individual players within an enjoyable and challenging team environment. Rugby is predominantly played during the Michaelmas Term, running from September to December, during which the Senior School fields squads for all age groups, giving over 200 boys the opportunity to represent Cokethorpe across a total of twelve teams.

Opportunities to play rugby not only include a competitive fixture list against other leading schools such as Abingdon, Magdalen and St Edward's, but also Inter-House Rugby Competitions, national and international tours and individual conditioning programs tailored to age and position. Senior squad members also receive weekly video analysis sessions to highlight areas for improvement.

Players also have access to a range of top class facilities to aid their training programme. These include:

  • A Sports Hall for weekly fitness circuits
  • Six rugby pitches and use of two astros for all-weather training
  • A conditioning room for strength and power development
  • A scrummage machine
  • Performance analysis software

Cokethorpe regularly enter county cup competitions, in which they have reached fifteen finals in eight years and were Quadruple U19 County Cup winners from 2008–2011. A substantial number of Cokethorpe pupils also receive representative honours in rugby each year, with selection at an area, county and national level.
