The Curriculum
The Junior School offers a fully balanced curriculum with the focus on developing high standards and providing intellectual challenges. Our children receive vital foundations for study in small classes and in a positive and purposeful learning environment.
Whilst the National Curriculum is followed, the freedom to offer breadth is fully embraced. All children receive specialist teaching in Art, Drama, French, Music and Physical Education. The younger children are taught by their class teacher for English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Religious Education, ICT, Design Technology and Personal, Social and Health Education. There is an increasing use of specialist teaching as the children move through the Junior School and some subjects are taught in sets. Latin is taught to children in Year 5 and Year 6.
There are opportunities for responsibility ranging from saying grace at lunchtime, presenting in the weekly assembly and carrying out Year 6 monitor and House Captain duties. In addition, successes are recognised through Recommendations, Pupil of the Week, Pupil of the Term and Prize Giving awards, as well as in the regular Junior School newsletter or termly issue of The Ocellus newsletter.
