Cokethorpe School

Aims and Objectives

Cokethorpe School seeks to educate and nurture its pupils and to help them fulfil their potential. To attain this goal, the School provides a challenging and rigorous set of academic and extra-curricular programmes within a caring and supportive environment. Pupils are encouraged to test and learn about themselves, to develop a concern for others and to grow intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. The School seeks to foster a capacity in each individual for clear and creative thought. The School encourages pupils to understand that learning is a lifelong endeavour that is valuable in itself, to strive for self-esteem and confidence and to be respectful of others. In addition, students learn that they must be responsible for their actions and for the decisions that they make.

At Cokethorpe School, pupils are expected to work diligently and to obtain the best possible academic results. Expectations also extend to behaviour: the aim is for pupils to possess a set of Christian principles that will govern their attitudes and actions. It remains the case that patient study and the art of constructing a community are things that have to be taught, passed on and preserved.

Cokethorpe School seeks to prepare students to live great and giving lives. Our vision is that every child should leave school with:

  • A set of spiritual and moral values – honesty, integrity and good judgement
  • A complement of basic skills – linguistic, mathematical, scientific, artistic, physical and social
  • An enquiring and discriminating mind and a desire for knowledge
  • Strong self-esteem and high personal expectation
  • Tolerance and respect for others; our ethics are based on Christian values

The School values the partnership which exists between school, parents and community and the part it plays in realising this vision.
