The Cokethorpe Plinth
The Fourth Plinth, popularly known as ‘the empty plinth’ and located in Trafalgar Square in London, was originally designed by Sir Charles Barry and was built in 1841 to display an equestrian statue. Due to insufficient funds the plinth was left empty and remained so until recently, where it is now used to display a series of temporary works of art. To date these have included works such as Alison Lapper Pregnant by Marc Quinn, Model for a Hotel by Thomas Schütte and most recently One and Other by Antony Gormley and Nelson’s Ship in a Bottle by Yinka Shonibare.

Inspired by the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square and drawing upon Cokethorpe’s artistic flair, the School is exhibiting its own art work on a specially commissioned plinth. The second installation, currently being exhibited, is the creation of Mr Schofield.
The School welcomes all proposals for future exhibits. They can embrace a variety of different art forms including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and digital designs and can include varied visual styles and materials; it should be kept in mind however, that it will be outside and therefore subjected to the elements.
The project is open to all those connected to Cokethorpe, including past and present pupils, parents and staff.
Please note: The surface dimensions of the plinth are 19 inches by 19 inches.
