Cokethorpe School

Wider Community

With the ever improving academic, structural and sporting facilities here at Cokethorpe School, we are able to continue in our support of the local and wider communities.

Our buildings, be they classrooms, performance space or sports hall have provided a venue for many academic and arts-based activities while our extensive pitches on grass, or Astroturf, have hosted high quality local, county and national tournaments and events.

Please contact Warwick Daniels, Director of External Affairs, for more information.

1st Standlake and Cokethorpe Sea Scouts

Sea Scouting is a branch of Scouting and is based on the same fundamental Scouting aims and methods, adding a nautical twist to the programme and activities. Pupils from Cokethorpe and the surrounding area meet every Thursday evening during the winter, using a variety of spaces within the School. In the summer they meet at West Oxfordshire Sailing Club to do sailing and canoeing. The Beavers are from 6.00pm to 7.00pm and the Sea Scouts are from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

The School hosts the annual camp for 80 boys and girls from all the Oxfordshire Sea Scouts contingents.

See www.rn98.co.uk for more information or contact Dave Henderson at skip-rn98@hotmail.co.uk or on 01993 852299.

County and National Hockey

The two Astroturf pitches provide the ideal setting for hockey festivals and tournaments of varying scale. The School is proud to host the inter-county hockey tournaments for a number of the boys' and girls' Oxfordshire squads, and the local hockey clubs of Wychwood and West Witney regularly use the pitches for league and friendly matches.

Local and National Rugby

The England U16 Rugby squad use the Cokethorpe grounds for training and matches on various weekends over the year. The lead coach is Cokethorpe's Head of Rugby, Gareth Rees.

The Wasp's Elite Rugby Training and Oxfordshire Development also use the grounds for their training sessions and seminars. Led by Kevin Robinson, the  Rugby Development Chairman for Oxfordshire RFU.

Local and District Cricket

The U15 District Cricket Squad use the School facilities on a Friday evening for training and there is a District Cricket Festival taking placing on 29 and 30 of May.

Between May and September, the Oxford Downs Vets and Youth Development Cricket Squad use the School's cricket pitches for their league games. See www.odcc.co.uk for more information.

Local Businesses Charity Triathlon

The School hosts the local businesses charity triathlon each year which raises over £2,000 for the local primary school in the parish of Ducklington. Money has also been used to fund the research and publication of a memorial dedicated to those from the parish that died during World War I, World War II and the Korean War.

Schools' Cross Country

The School hosts the county schools' cross country championship each year.
