The Cokethorpe Society
A very warm welcome to you, as you are most likely to be a former pupil, already a member of the Society or, perhaps more excitingly, a former pupil with whom the school has until now lost contact.
I have taught Biology at Cokethorpe for over 25 years, and in my time been Head of Boarding, a Housemaster, Head of Sixth Form and a coach of rugby, rowing and shooting. Perhaps because of my broad view and interest in Cokethorpe and its pupils or, more likely, by dint of my time served here, the Headmaster has asked me to take on the challenge of forging greater and ever closer links with our alumni.
The Cokethorpe Society is the former pupils' and former staff's association (the Old Boys and Girls Club). The objectives of the Society are to improve links between former pupils and the School, to provide sporting and other social functions where members can meet, and to offer a degree of support for particular projects within the school itself, for the benefit of the present and future generations of students. I would also like to feel that the Society may be happy to foster relations between itself and current senior pupils, with a view to sharing with them its professional experiences. It may be that former pupils would be happy to come in and talk about their careers or indeed offer 'hands on' professional exposure to some of our senior students.
Come what may I am determined to raise the profile of the Society, and see no reason why you should not have a vibrant, enjoyable and symbiotic relationship with your School.
Generally speaking, former pupils will have contracted into the Society for five years and many have subsequently kept up a standing order. As from April 2007 all students, when they leave, will subscribe to a life long membership, which will automatically be extended to all other former Cokethorpe students. Those Society members who have been good enough to keep up their payments may well wish to continue, but this is no longer a prerequisite for membership to the Society.
On a yearly basis, former pupils will receive copies of our glossy termly newsletter The Ocellus, as well as invitations to sporting, cultural, or social events.
The Foundation Office have made a gargantuan effort to update our Society database, with a great deal of success, but we can, of course, only keep in touch with you if we have up-to-date details.
I very much look forward to hearing your news and, indeed, meeting up again at one of our many functions.
My kind regards
