Senior School

Cokethorpe is an unpretentiously friendly school that allows our pupils to flourish.

We are not fussy about our achievements or boastful about our qualities, respecting the academic as much as the actor, the games player as much as the musician and all those who fall in between. Talent is valued but is not seen as the be-all and end-all – everyone belongs and everyone contributes.

The Senior School takes pupils from 11 to 18 years (with pupils progressing to the Sixth Form from 16 to 18 years) and although the majority join at 11, there is a significant intake at 13. As a fully co-educational school we subscribe to Plato’s view that this encourages comradeship and cooperation between the sexes. We are academically selective, but not highly so, and our value added data puts us in the very top sector of schools in the country. Education is not simply about examination results and the education of the whole is very important to us. Our extended day allows us to offer an exceptionally wide range of extra-curricular activities. Our sports teams regularly compete at a national level, our dramatists recently performed at RADA and our musicians frequently perform across the county and beyond.

Our pupils understand that life is to be lived to the full and, most importantly, that this means being aware of others’ needs as well as one’s own. We hope our girls and boys will leave Cokethorpe ready to take on the world with both happy memories and long-lasting friendships.

At the heart of school life is academic study.
