Football

The philosophy of Football at Cokethorpe is a very simple one – to produce technically gifted and knowledgeable players, who can play in a variety of different positions.

This approach was taken initially from the Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam and their concept of Totaalvoetbal or ‘Total Football’, but is now seen in many clubs around the world – with the most celebrated being Barcelona, Spain and Arsenal. For this style to develop, coaches must instil an expectation and a style of play that is grooved and nurtured through training and match preparation. The aim of which is not necessarily to win all matches in all ages, but instead to create players that become ever more skilful, knowledgeable and comfortable within the game. This is achieved through carefully planned training and the correct range of fixtures and opposition. Pupils will generally play eight to ten fixtures in a twelve week term, leaving time for training and development.
