Cricket

Cricket at Cokethorpe is the major boys sport played during the Summer Term.

The School begins preparations in the Lent Term with winter nets and with pre-season training days. The 1st XI plays a number of prestige fixtures including the MCC and the SOA. Pupils are given individual as well as team coaching and in any typical year six to eight boys are selected for Oxfordshire. The coaching staff have high expectations and aim to develop a high standard of play. Coaching is focused on the three key elements of the games play namely batting, bowling and fielding while making use of the state of the art and recently installed outdoor nets and bowling machines which build shot consistency. A competitive fixture list and the running of our own T10 tournaments at U18 and U13 levels attract ten other teams playing in an all-day round-robin format. Fixtures are played against schools such as Magdalen College School, Abingdon, Bloxham and Pate’s Grammar School.
